" Working with myself as a designer and with many art students from all over the world I noticed over the years that a good creative idea changes our body: eyes start to shine, breath deepens, posture becomes more erect, all of our being gets engaged. I wondered if I could bring our body in such a state via a warm-up, maybe creativity is then more likely to come." That observation was the beginning of the practice of LIVE WORKS.
Starting from the exploration of the dynamic interplay between individuals and their surroundings within stage design during the 1980s, Pien Vrijhof embarked on a three- decade journey as an educator at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in the early 1990s.
In many young artists she noticed a shared longing among creators for the immediacy and vitality of bodily expression in their artistic endeavors. In 2010, <LIVE WORKS> emerged as an official platform for communication and creative exploration, providing Pien with a space to delve deeper into her methodology.
Throughout her career, Pien not only immersed herself in the Alexander Technique but also drew inspiration from modern dance and the Feldenkrais Method. Over the years, she guided collaborative artists and students to navigate the innovation in the creative process.
The practice of <LIVE WORKS> offers sessions to expand creativity and sessions to create live artworks. Over the years, <LIVE WORKS> has amassed a wealth of historical insights into performance and practice methods while fostering a community of creators from diverse cultural backgrounds. This international community continuously generates inspired ideas rooted in the <LIVE WORKS> methodology, perpetuating its global impact.
